Our Story
At The Broken Crust, we believe that food is not just about sustenance, but also about bringing people together. That's why we started this small business, to create delicious meals and unforgettable experiences for our customers.
Who We Are
Located in the heart of “The Quiet Corner” in Putnam, Connecticut, The Broken Crust sits between Cargill Waterfall, The Bradley Playhouse, and the town’s charming antique marketplace district. This cozy boutique-style café features exposed brick, handcrafted wooden tables, warm pendant lighting, and chalkboard menus that create an inviting, rustic ambiance. With over 30 beers, 12 wines, handcrafted sandwiches, made-daily soups, unique salads, and bakery-style pizza, every item is thoughtfully selected by the Cozza and Martin families, who also take pride in building an exceptional team. Rooted in locally sourced ingredients and homemade cooking, The Broken Crust is a dream brought to life—offering a dining experience so memorable that critics say it’s “a crust so good it was made to be broken.”
#OPERATION BROKEN CRUST
Our quaint little restaurant opened just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic forced dining rooms to close, abruptly shifting what had been a booming start. Determined to survive while supporting their community, the Cozza and Martin families worked tirelessly to keep their newly hired staff employed and their dream alive. From the beginning, they created the “Sharing Is Caring” menu, dedicating a portion of proceeds to local initiatives, and quickly launched #OperationBrokenCrust in April 2020 as a way to help those in need. Since then, the initiative has raised over $15,000—along with generous customer donations, 100% of which have supported local hospitals, first responders, the post office, a local radio station, food pantry programs, community park events, and youth sports. Operation Broken Crust continues to grow, reflecting the owners’ deep pride in their community and their ongoing commitment to giving back year after year.
